Built 1948. Renewed 2021. Named for the trees.
An artist's cabin getaway, rebuilt into a rustic-modern retreat — and named for the mulberry trees that still ripen in the backyard every June.
Mulberry Pines sits back from the road on a private half-acre of hundred-year pines, dogwoods, and its namesake mulberries, tucked between the sparkling shore of Lake Michigan and the winding Kalamazoo River. The front yard is big and open — fire pit, hammock, room for lawn games — and the back yard is fenced in around the hot tub, the grill, and the string lights.
Deer cross the yard most late afternoons, and wild turkeys make regular appearances. Downtown Saugatuck and Douglas — the galleries, the restaurants, the marina — are five minutes away: close enough for dinner, far enough for quiet.
Inside, the 2021 renewal kept the cabin's soul and rebuilt everything else: modern furnishings, local art on the walls, a fully-equipped kitchen, and a wood-burning fireplace that still does the heavy lifting on winter nights.
Room by room

The living room
A sectional that seats the whole group, a real wood fire, and French doors to the backyard. The Frame TV disappears into art when you don't need it.

The kitchen
Fully stocked and genuinely so — cookware, bakeware, spices, gas stove, coffee and tea provided. Guests keep writing reviews about it.

The dining room
A long table for the whole group's long dinners, open onto the kitchen and living room — nobody's ever cooking alone.

The primary suite
A charcoal accent wall, the driftwood sunburst mirror, and a spa-like bathroom with a walk-in shower, jacuzzi tub, and a skylight overhead.

The treetop loft
Up the stairs and into the canopy — windows over the backyard, its own seating nook, and a portable A/C for the warmest summer weeks.

The front yard room
Just off the kitchen, with a queen bed and a window onto the front yard — quiet, simple, and the best seat for watching the deer come through.

The back yard
Fenced in and strung with lights: the year-round hot tub at 100°+, outdoor dining, patio heaters, and pines overhead. Serviced weekly, ready always.
